Book about the Norwegian-American newspapers in Norwegian
Professor Odd S. Lovoll’s book about the Norwegian-American newspapers, “Norwegian Newspapers in America: Connecting Norway and the new Land”, is now out in Norwegian. On 478 compact pages, Odd S. Lovoll writes about everything from the first Norwegian-American newspaper “Nordlyset” from 1847, up until “The Norwegian-American Weekly”, which is still being published. In the course of these years, about 280 different Norwegian-American newspapers have been published in America, and they have all affected the Norwegian communities in America in their own way.
Odd S. Lovoll presents in many ways an unknown story and many small details makes his book about the Norwegian-American press a “Saga with pictures”. It is both exciting and interesting to read, and the story is very well written. “Norwegian Newspapers in America: Connecting Norway and the new Land” is published in Norwegian by Scandinavian American Press (Spartacus Forlag AS) in Oslo. The book is dedicated to Else Olfrid Lovoll, the author’s wife (1935-2011). The book is a must for everyone who wants to understand the true Norwegian-American tradition and history, and not just the Norwegian-American newspapers. The book is a significant contribution to the migration history between the two countries.
We should be grateful that Odd S. Lovoll has written this book, and that Scandinavian American press has published it. The book is translated by Astrid Skar and the author.
