The Nobel Peace Prize is the most prestigious award in the world, honoring icons such as Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, Mikhail Gorbachev, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Barack Obama, Kofi Annan, Al Gore and other prominent individuals and organizations. Today the Nobel Peace Prize 2014 is awarded to Kailash Satyarthi and Malala Yousafzai for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education.
Kailash Satyarthi was born January 11 1954, in Vidisha, India. He has headed various forms of protests and demonstartions, all peaceful, focusing on the grave exploitation of children for financial gain. He has also contributed to the development of important international conventions on children’s rights.Since 1981 Satyarthi have rescued 83 657 kids from slavery in India.
Malala Yousafzai was born July 12 1997, in Mingora, Pakistan. Despite her young age, Malala has fought a brave battle for sveral years to secure girls’ right to an education.This she has done under the most dangerous circumstances. Through her struggle she has become a leading spokesperson for girls’ right to education.
During the day, there has been held a children’s concert outside the Peace Center in Oslo, with over 6000 children greeting the Peace Prize laureates. Satyarthi and Yousafzai addressed the children and answered to their questions. Satyarthi said Norwegian kids are very lucky, to be able to be free and have dreams. Yousafzai said that the children gave her more energy to contiue her work, and reminded the Norwegian kids there are 66 million girls in the world who don’t get the opportunity to go to school. The laureates also expressed their thanks to the kids.

Nobel Peace Prize Concert
The traditional Nobel Peace Prize Concert will be held in Oslo Spektrum, hosted by Queen Latifah. Academy Award nominated, Grammy and Golden Globe Award winning actress and singer Queen Latifah will host this year’s musical celebration.To honor the Indian and Pakistani cultures of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, several of the artists who will perform represent a special blend of traditional and modern Bollywood influences as well as classic Indian and Pakistani music.Some of the artists performing are Steven Tyler, Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Kahan, Laura Mvula, Gabrielle, and Girls of the World.
This is the twenty-first Nobel Peace Prize Concert, which is a musical celebration honoring the year’s Nobel Peace Prize laureates. The Concert is broadcast to a global audience and reaches up to 350 million households and 100 countries. Over the years, the Concert has featured top global artists including, Paul McCartney, Rihanna, Sting, Santana, Alicia Keys, Willie Nelson, Annie Lennox, Wyclef Jean, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, Bon Jovi, A -ha, Bernhoft and Youssou N’Dour.
