The TV series Kampen om Tungtvannet (Th battle for heavy water) unfolds during the prelude, the onset and the end of the 2nd World War. It depicts the story behind Hitler’s plan of Germany getting the atomic bomb, and the heavy water sabotages in Rjukan, Norway.

During the 2nd World War, Nobel laureate Werner Heisenberg led the Nazi atomic project. Heisenberg needed heavy water, only produced by Norwegian Hydro at Vemork, to the reactor. The heavy water factory creator, scientist and resistance fighter Leif Tronstad grew suspicious learning about the German heavy water purchases, and contacted English intelligence.

The series has been met with critical acclaim by most Norwegian reviewers, and has already been sold to several countries. It managed to set a viewer record for national TV-drama premiere in Norway, when it aired 4th of January 2015 and a massive 24,3 % of the Norwegian population was watching the whole two first episodes. It also captured 62,5 % of the total TV-viewing at the time that Sunday.

Starring in the series are Espen Klouman Høiner, Cristoph Bach, Dennis Storhøi, Anna Friel and Maibritt Saerens among others.
