Norgesskolen 2020 canceled

Norgesskolen 2020 canceled due to Covid-19

It’s with regret we inform that the Board of Norwegians Worldwide on April 2nd decided to cancel Norgesskolen 2020.

We know the students were looking forward to a Norwegian summer filled with friendships, learning and fun, and so were we. We have been monitoring the situation closely, hoping for things to improve, but the pandemic is becoming more serious day by day, all over the world.

The safety of our students is our highest priority. Students from all over the world gather in Telemark, where we live, eat and study close to each other. We hug, we do sports and play games. All these activities are essential in the learning and personal development that takes place at Norgesskolen. Unfortunately, these are also activities our health authorities now recommend we abstain from for an uncertain period of time.

We have discussed implementing a modified program, but have concluded that this would not be true to the unique concept of Norgesskolen. We also do not know if the students will be allowed to travel in July or to enter Norway without being required to quarantine. The health of our employees and the limitations of the local health authorities in Sauherad municipality in Telemark are also among our many concerns.

Unfortunately, we see no other alternative than to cancel Norgesskolen 2020. However, we will be back next summer! In the meantime, we’ll work on developing our educational program and plan some great new activities. Our goal is to give the students an unforgettable summer experience in Norway in 2021.
