Nordmanns-Forbundet/ Norwegians Worldwide is a non profit, membership based organization for Norwegians living abroad. We offer support, speak on their behalf, and provide a network of fellow Norwegians abroad. H.M. King Harald is our patron.
Since 1907 we have worked to strengthen ties between Norway and Norwegians around the world. We currently have members in 47 countries, with 26 chapters and representatives in 11 countries.
It was the Norwegian writer and statesman Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson who initiated the foundation of an organization for Norwegians living abroad. Those were dramatic times. Norway had just ended the union with Sweden and elected its own king. Many Norwegians had emigrated, especially to America, and there was a strong desire to maintain contact with the emigrants as well as for the emigrants to maintain relations to their homeland.
