The Norwegian government announced the proposed changes in the Norwegian legislation on citizenship through a press release on Dec 20, 2017. Read the press release here (only in Norwegian).

This means the process toward a new law allowing dual citizenship is in the pipeline. We have been waiting for this for a long time, but there’s still a lot left to do.

Right now, the proposal is out on hearing. Interest groups and others are now able to give their feedback and comments on the proposed bill. This is how we are able to make amends and changes to the proposed law. But we can’t do it alone. To ensure that the new law will encompass everyone this concerns, we need your help.

Please read the proposed changes in the law here (only in Norwegian), and send us your reaction and comments: info@nww.no. Chapter 6.3 on pages 26-28, as well as the wording of the new law, 22a, on pages 33-34, are especially important to Norwegians abroad.

Our deadline to submit Norwegians Worldwide’s comments to Stortinget (parliament) is March 21, 2018, but please send us your opinion as quickly as possible.

If you or your family are affected by this law, do not hesitate to contact us with your story. We are more than happy to hear from you: info@nww.no.

We will make sure that the voice of Norwegians abroad will be heard in this very important matter that concerns so many of you.
