The Norwegian King is formally the head of state, but his duties are mainly representative and ceremonial. The legislative and executive powers lie with the country’s elected bodies. When the Constitution states that: “the executive power is vested in the King”, this now means that it is vested in the Government.

The members of the Norwegian Royal Family are Their Majesties King Harald and Queen Sonja and Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus.

H.R.H. King Harald is Norwegians Worldwide’s Patron, like his father and grandfather before him.

In 2016 the Norwegan King and Queen celebrated 25 years on the throne together. Read more about the celebrations in Norway.
