Norway’s very first disaster movie has captured the Norwegian audience and has currently been seen over half a million times at Norwegian cinemas. Critics has received the movie with praise, and the film has been sold to large parts of the world, including the US.
Right in the middle of the Geiranger Fjord, not far from the village Hellesylt and Norway’s biggest tourist magnet Geiranger, lies montainous Åkneset. The experienced geologist Kristian Eikjord (Kristoffer Joner) finds himself in the middle of his life’s worst nightmare. He is split from his family and it’s only10 minutes to the gushing inferno will hit. It becomes a deadly race against time before the powerful forces of nature reach land.
In the lead characters we find Ane Dahl Torp, known from Gymnaslærer Pedersen (2006) and 1001 Gram (2014), Kristoffer Joner, known from Vildmark (2003) and Neighbors (2005), and newcomer Jonas Oftebro, brother of the more famous Jacob Oftebro.
The Wave is directed by Roar Uthaug. Uthaug is known for his success with the movie Cold Prey (Fritt Vilt) from 2006. The film was a box office success in Norway and got sold to more than 70 countries.
