A comedy about starting a refugee center, Welcome to Norway!, have been selected for the main competition and thus compete for one million at the Gothenburg International Film Festival. The documentary Mannen fra Snåsa made by Margaret Olin about Joralf Gjerstad, is competing for the documentary award of 100,000 kr. This is the largest film festival in the Nordic, and several films also represent Norway in Nordiskt Ljus program.
Norwegian films has recently attracted considerable attention in Gothenburg, by winning the Dragon Award Best Nordic Film, for three consecutive years. Last year Norway was the focus country during the festival, with the honorary prize going to Liv Ullmann and a display of 26 Norwegian films. The festival this year runs from January 29 to February 8.
Welcome to Norway! is made by Rune Langlo Denstad as director and screenwriter and stars Anders Baasmo Christiansen, Henriette Steenstrup, Olivier Mukut and Slimane Dazi in the central roles. The film takes part in the main competition and gets its world premiere in Gothenburg.
Norwegian premiere is March 4.
